How to care for your

Marcus Alexanders

Part of our Responsibility Commitment is developing shoes with high quality materials and taking pride in our craftsmanship so each shoe stands the test of time.

Here is how you can continue that legacy for your Marcus Alexanders.

  • Be sure to reference the Material + Care Section on each product page to ensure you are following the correct directions.

START OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT

Once you receive your Marcus Alexanders, lightly coat them with your favorite protector spray. This step will protect them from environmental elements and prolong their freshness.

Be sure to find a protector spray that is compatible with the shoe’s materials (Materials are listed on the bottom of each product page).

    OUT THE BOX CARE

    • Use a suede brush or towel to wipe away surface debris, working in the same direction as the material (rather than going against the grain).

    • Mix warm water with a small amount of mild laundry detergent or dish soap to create a mild cleaning solution.

    • Apply the mild cleaning solution to a soft-bristled brush, toothbrush, or soft cloth. Clean the entire shoe thoroughly. Brush gently to avoid damaging the material.

    • In addition, to dry brushing and cleaning with a mild dish-soap solution, you may want to use a suede rubber or a pencil eraser to gently rub away any marks on the surface of the shoe.

    • For stubborn stains, use a cloth dipped in white vinegar to scrub the fabric in alternating directions.

    • Once satisfied with the look, use a dry microfiber towel or soft cloth to blot and lift as much soapy moisture and dirt from the surface as possible. Repeat if necessary. Try to avoid vigorous rubbing as it can wear down the shoe fabric or spread any remaining small bits of dirt.

    • Air dry the sneakers at room temperature. Always allow shoes to dry completely before wearing them again. For many shoes, it can take at least 8 hours to fully dry.

    BETWEEN WEAR CARE

Place the appropriate size shoe trees inside your Marcus Alexanders to maintain structure, minimize unwanted odors, and prevent moisture accumulation.

    OUT THE BOX CARE

    • Remove loose debris from the outsole, midsole and uppers using a dry, soft-bristled shoe brush. No shoe brush? No problem. An clean, spare toothbrush works fine.

    • In addition, dry brushing and cleaning with a mild dish-soap solution, you may want to use a household cleaning eraser or leather conditioner to remove stains. Avoid scrubbing the shoes too hard, or you could damage the leather.

More Questions?No Problem!

See below for shoe care FAQ’s

  • We do not recommend washing our shoes in the washing machine.

Properly hand washing shoes is the best way to ensure they won’t be accidentally harmed in the process.

We source high quality shoe materials, but they can be damaged in the washer and the heat from the dryer can deform a pair of shoes.

Also, it’s possible to damage your washing machine by washing bulky items like sneakers.

We made each shoe with intention and love, with the hope that their owner takes care of them the same way.

  • From time to time, it may be necessary to clean your insoles.

To do so, remove the insoles and use the same cleaning steps for the outside of your shoes (see above).

Be sure to air dry them completely before putting them back in your shoes.

If odor persists, you may want to replace the insoles. Replacement insoles are available at many sporting goods and shoe stores.

  • Your cleaning schedule depends on how often you wear the shoes and where your feet take you.

To keep them in top shape, aim to clean your shoes every two weeks or whenever they start to look dirty.

Regular maintenance can help reduce cleaning time.

  • If shoes still look dirty after following and repeating the recommended cleaning steps, it might be time for a new pair of shoes. And you’re in luck, we know a guy! Check out the latest product offering!

But first — did you know about the Marcus Alexander Recycling Program?

As part of our Responsibility Commitment, we created the Marcus Alexander Recycling Program to keep the impact to the environment as low as possible through our shoes entire lifecycle.

Here’s how you can participate in the Marcus Alexander Recycling Program:

    1. Email us at info@marcus-alexander.com and we’ll send you a shipping label — and then pour one out for the homies.

    2. Say your goodbyes, pack up your Marcus Alexanders, and send them back to us. Once received, we will break them down, sort the recyclable and non-recyclable elements, and send them to the appropriate facilities.

    3. Your shine can’t and won’t stop — at least not on our watch! After we receive your retired pair of shoes, we will send you a $50 credit toward your next pair of Marcus Alexanders!
